The Android collection / Vol. I

Ancient ideas.

A growing collection of Android apps, inspired by the structures
that endure—and the ideas that keep moving.

Specus

Clarity, by design.

An aqueduct carries water along a deliberate path. Specus borrows that idea for an Android architecture built around a clear flow of actions and state.

This is the beginning of the collection. The app is in development; a working demo, source walkthrough, and engineering case study will follow as it takes shape.

The idea behind the name

A clear channel.
A predictable journey.

Specus uses the aqueduct as a metaphor for unidirectional data flow within an MVVM design: the interface sends actions, the ViewModel handles them, and state flows back to the interface.

  1. I

    Action

A person interacts with the interface.

  2. II

    ViewModel

The action is handled and the next state is prepared.

  3. III

    State

The interface renders the updated state.

MVVM describes responsibilities. One-way state flow is the design choice connecting them here.

One collection. Many possibilities.

More chapters
will follow.

Each app will have its own purpose, name, and engineering story.
